With a big trend of the reveal moment in the United States couples are slowly catching on in Canada with the first look wedding photo session. We were so thrilled to see that more and more couples are open to the idea of doing the reveal or as some people call it: the first look. We wanted to list a few reasons for doing the first looks wedding session and few different ideas to consider. If you decide on having the first look wedding session then be prepared for some amazing candid photos full of emotion, incredible reactions and emotions you will get to experience with your partner. You also should be prepared for sweet intimate moments after you see each other (my personal favorite) while you give each other compliments and express your love for one another. We are such huge fans.
1. Consider time restrictions of your wedding day
If your timeline doesn’t allow for a wedding photo session between your ceremony and reception we strongly recommend seeing each other before and allowing your photographer to capture your special moments. This especially applies to any late afternoon weddings (golf course weddings, winery weddings, estate weddings) where the ceremony takes place right before the reception.
2. Consider who you want to share this moment with
Some couples choose to have a very intimate reveal with no one else around other than just the two of them experiencing each other’s emotion while others want to involve their bridal party and family. We find that couples experiencing the first look on their own generally allow themselves to feel and show more emotion. It truly is a magnificent moment.

4. More candid and emotional wedding photos
The First Look allows the photographer to capture better candid images as you focus more on each other and none of the moments or poses are prompted.
5. The First Look enhances your day
Many times couples are afraid that seeing each other before the ceremony will take away from the special moment of walking down the isle. We have yet to see that happen. Every couple experiences the same if not greater emotion of the bride walking down the isle towards her groom and the anticipation of becoming husband and wife. In fact, many times brides feel very overwhelmed while walking down the isle. Brides can have a hard time just focusing on her husband to be.
6. Get your Bridal Party involved
In the anticipation of seeing each other the bridal party can be helpful in being your support system as well as help the couple build the anticipation. In this case the groomsmen knew the groom hoped the bride didn’t wear a short dress. As he looked towards them the groomsmen kept commenting on how short the dress was. They all had a great laugh over the built up anticipation.
And again, another emotional ceremony regardless of the fact that the couple saw each other during the first look and had a full wedding photo session before.
